Running Tip of the Month!

Beat the heat!

Allow about two weeks to acclimate to the heat.  Once acclimated, make sure to take fluids along with you on any run over 90 minutes.  Make sure you take in enough sodium along the way.

"Experience Charlottesville; the East Coast running mecca, in all its Fall glory"
Congratulations to ALL our runners!   Runners of all backgrounds came to compete in the Second Annual Charlottesville Fall Classic 10K Road Championship.  Several elite runners from Kenya, Ethiopia and Russia came to Charlottesville today to compete for the over $2000 prize purse.  The men's winner was Kirui Kipyegon from Kenya (30:45), with Nicholas Kurgat (the 2008 champion and current record holder) close behind.  The women's record was broken by Aziza Aliyu (35:07).  The winners received a $500 prize purse, and Aziza received an additional $100 from Newton Running, our sponsor, for breaking the course record.
The conditions were perfect in the early morning: the temperature stayed around 68 degrees, and the rain did not arrive until later in the day.  The Fall colors were greatly enhanced by the rain, and all the runners truly enjoyed the beautiful section along the Rivanna river.
Many local runners also shined: Jason Buczyna was 11th (36:45) and Taylor Robertson was 16th (38:15).
Race day pictures will be available in a couple of days.
The Charlottesville Fall Classic 10K Road Championship is presented by Charlottesville Running Company.  Thank you to our sponsors, Newton Running and Puma Running.
Thank you to all the volunteers who made the race possible, the Charlottesville Police and our medical director, Dr. Bob Wilder from the Runner's Clinic.
See you in 2010!
