This is imperative because the roads will be closed by police and a delay might cause you not be able to reach your post. 3) Make yourself comfortable at your location. If you wish, you can bring music or friends to make it more fun for you and for the runners. 4) At your location, you will need to: · Stop approaching traffic when runners are present. For example, if your post is at the junction between University Ave and Elliewood, your job is to stop any traffic exiting and entering Elliewood from University Ave while runners are present. · Make sure the runners stay on course. If you are unsure of the race course, a detailed map can be found on this website under Charlottesville Marathon/Maps (zoom in on the upper left). You can also ask Francesca at 293.7115. 5) When the last runner has gone by, you can leave your post. If you foresee the need of leaving your post DURING the race, please bring a backup with you. Leaving the post unattended might lead to runners being unprotected from traffic or making a wrong turn. 6) You will know when the LAST runner has gone by because you will see the Marathon SWEEP car, the car which will be behind the last runner. This car will say “SWEEP” on its side. CAREFUL! You might see the Half Marathon sweep car much earlier than the Marathon sweep car, but make sure to wait for the Marathon sweep car. Also, at the following location, you will see all runners twice: Miller Center, Old Ivy, Old Garth, Garth to Hunts Store). 7) Thank you again for all your help! Have fun and cheer the runners as they go by, because they really appreciate it.
